ABOUT

Super slay Gato’s creator

Hello, my name is jo(e)

Pronouns: they/them

I am a fiber artist based in Los Angeles, california. I make one of a kind handcrafted crochet and knit clothing pieces and decorations. I began crocheting from a young age when my grandmother, mamaria, taught me how to make blankets and scarves. I picked up crocheting and knitting again around 3 years ago while at university; giving it my own style and creating my own brand.

In 2024 I curated my first fashion show spending over 334 hours creating 7 unique and captivating outfits. Most of my inspiration for creating art comes from nature including animal and plant patterns, color combinations, and designs. I don’t follow patterns and make each design as I go. For this reasons no two pieces will ever be the same.

I love showcasing my identity and culture in my art and everything I do. I also uplift my communities, including them in my projects, fashion shows, and photoshoots. I am a queer Hispanic artist who drives inspiration from the world and i’m here to share a little piece of myself with you!

Fun FActs:

  • I graduated this year with a bachelors of science in wildlife biology and environmental science

  • I’ve ran 2 marathons and i’m training for a third

  • I love dancing and rollerskating to reggaeton, rap, r&b, and spanish music

  • I hope to start my own animal sanctuary one day
